Dimaniyat Islands

Dimaniyat Islands is a very famous diving site in Oman located 18 kilometers off the coast of Barka (where I currently live and work) which is approximately 45 kilometers away from Muscat, International Airport. I never had any interest in visiting this place as I don’t do any kind of water sports. In conjunction with my previous post “Cruising with Oman Charter”, I decided to post about Dimaniyat Islands to give my readers an idea about the place. Dimaniyat Islands was our destination with the Oman Charter Cruise. It took us 2.5 hours to reach the place with the Orana […]

Cruising with Oman Charter

We were invited by Oman Sail to join the Tourism Day for a boat cruise to Dimaniyat Islands intended for tour operators and hoteliers in Muscat to sample their product and services being offered to hotel guests and tourists in Oman. We boarded the Orana 44 Catamaran at the The Wave Muscat Marina. Inside the boat is an air-conditioned salon that  can accommodate up to 8 people. At one corner, at the right side as one enters the salon is a mini kitchen with worktop, cooker, oven, sink and cupboards and opposite is the bar. Opposite the kitchen is a […]

Hexebella Walked Around Durham

Subsequent to my previous post on taking a break at Durham Marketplace, I continued my walking tour around Durham. I was enchanted by its old buildings and architecture, cobbled streets and some old houses. Most of the people roaming the place, I believe, were tourists like me who were exploring the lovely city. I found a footpath along the River Wear, it was full of greenery and the atmosphere so serene that one could hear only the birds chirping.   I also met a few joggers along the way. As I go further, I saw 3 teen-agers down the river bank […]

Winery Hopping at Napa Valley, California

It was my 3-month holiday in Germany in 2001 where I got exposed to wine drinking that I can’t remember a day that I never had a wine either with a meal or just simply over a casual chat during those days. During my holiday in the US in 2009, I had the opportunity to come this side of California and got very much interested to visit a winery. I have seen vineyards in Europe but never been to a winery yet, so this one has really made me so excited. We found first V. Sattui Winery where we entered […]

Restless Feet on Break at Durham Marketplace Square

Feet weary and needed a break has found a place to stop for a while at the Durham Market Place Square. The place is a spacious square with benches and serves a meeting place or simply just to leisurely hang around when the weather is nice. I decided to stop and sit and look around the lovely old structures around me. A famous statue at the background stands at the center of the square. He is the Marquis of Londonderry who fought many battles, hence the statute is that of a soldier in a military uniform riding a horse. According […]

Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral as the name suggests, is located in the city of Durham in Durham County. The cathedral is the icon of this lovely city which was built in the late 11th century. There are several trains that travels from Newcastle to Durham, I just can’ t remember which one brought me to Durham. I remember the Virgin trains and GNER, and that was in May 2007, could be by now there are more train companies that serve this route. Travel time is very quick, approximately 15-20 minutes. As I came out of the train station towards the street, this […]

Treated like a Queen

Spas are like mushrooms in Chiang Mai, big and small, that I told myself I have to experience one of them. Which among them to try is the question. If I will ask the guesthouse where I was staying, I was worried that I could get a biased recommendation, they might direct me to the spa who give them favors. So, as usual, I asked google and I landed in Trip Advisor. Among the reviews in Trip Advisor, I found out that Fah Lanna has a high rating due to the high satisfaction of their clients,  hence I decided to […]

Dining at Huen Phen (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

I had no plan coming to this restaurant, I came down from my room of the guesthouse I was staying to check on the food I ordered online. I was told by the receptionist that the service was only in Bangkok. I was hungry already and I don’t plan to dine outside. They told me to walk around 200 meters and I would find a restaurant. And so I went and didn’t bother to go back to the room to take my cell phone and camera. I didn’t know that I will be welcomed by an extraordinary, unique ambiance that […]

By the Quayside (Newcastle Upon Tyne May 2007)

I landed in Newcastle at 11AM, had lunch, took a nap and at 4:00 pm went to the Quayside  to look around. As I came from Muscat having a temperature ranging from 40-45C, the 10C in Newcastle was freezing for me. Newcastle lies at the north side of the River Tyne  and Gateshead on the south side. The Quayside has a promenade where one can enjoy a leisure walk by the River Tyne enjoying the view and fresh air. It is also lined with different restaurants and bars that makes the place vibrant even at night time. The huge glass […]

I almost regretted it!

It was another long holiday in Oman sometime in the last quarter of 2011 when My Tribe organized a camping with their friends . I didn’t plan to go with them as I was not feeling well the night before until the next morning. And the fact that the time will pass by just chatting on topics that doesn’t interests me at all. They’re supposed to meet at 12:30pm near Hamriya. Everything is prepared and they were ready to go by 12:00nn. My Tribe has been persuading me to come since morning but I was just lazy until 12:00 nn […]
